It really is. People get so offended over nothing, it's ridiculous. My whole situation stemmed from something as dumb as one of my atheist friends making a joke about religion on facebook. Now a couple of my Christian friends who are as overtly perverted and un-serious as the rest of us are saying that "it's been a good run" and want nothing to do with any of my atheist friends anymore. to be honest the comment that started it was a bit douchy but it was all in jest, the whole thing just escalated from nothing.
I'm not sure whether to be annoyed at religion for causing some of my otherwise good friends to be so dogmatic, or the simply the friends in question.

the blame definitely lies within your friends being a bit too sensitive and letting something like a small argument get in the way of friendships.
