The difference between the X Files and Fringe is that the X Files went through paranormal activity with the idea that there
could be a scientific explanation. Fringe goes with the idea that everything in the show definitely has a scientific basis and, in fact, comes from someone's research. That's why it always ends with a tidy science lesson.
Granted, there are some inaccuracies that bug me as a scientist (like figuring out an organism's genome in roughly an hour), but that's the same with any show. The only show where it gets so bad that I can't even watch it is CSI.
