This history of anti-black racism in American cinema could've been really good but unfortunately, even at 52 minutes, it feels long and dull. The points Melvin Van Peebles makes may be all too true but the way in which he presents them comes off not so much as biting social commentary or enlightening historical narrative but rather like listening to the drunk guy in the corner of the bar grouse about the state of the world for an hour.
