My psychology teacher was saying thats because when we are around 2 we learn to separate "us" (our body) from the outside world. Also we are rewarded for learning to have bowel movements properly, therefore when we grow up we have that feeling of accomplishment and awe each time it happens. Makes sense if you think about it.
Its amazing how much your early childhood affects your life.
