No matter what he did in his private life (I am in the 'he was a paedophile' camp btw) there is no denying his talent when it came to making music. His singing on Dirty Diana is some of the best vocal work I can recall hearing, each verse was like a slow, emotional build up until the release at the chorus, I swear every time I hear that song I get goosebumps. Its a shame he tarnished his legacy with his other affairs and some of his weaker releases later in his career, but at his peak he was simply out of this world.
