The real people who actually help Humanity are generally the ones who do what you said - take the clothes on their back and blaze a trail. Sometimes metaphorically. Defintly in the past - Einstein, Newton, Darwin - were those people appreciated in their time? Nope. Are they even appreciated now? Not really. Their ideas are used as ammo for moot agendas.
