Here is a list of some things I think describe what I'm looking for somewhat:
-Lowside Of The Road and What's He Building In There by Tom Waits
-Asleep On The Subway by Sxip Shirey
-Blues For Uncle Gibb by Broken Social Scene
-I Don't Rap In Bumper Stickers by Sole
-Intro, Lunation, and Loop by DJ Krush (all off of Strictly Turntablized)

Can anyone tell me some artists to look into?

All the best,
Graeme
If you're not already aware of a lot of the Anticon artists (which may very well be one of the things you're looking for - they are the most abstract, avant-garde of any hip hop I've heard) then you should absolutely check out Themselves.

It's DoseOne and Jel, and it's a guy with one of the most unique voices I've heard rhyming in absurd time signatures over a beat made by a truly great producer in his friend Jel.

Themselves - It's Them
