Yeah the lack of any real production on the album works wonders, it allows for their passion and energy to shine through very nicely nicely. It's one of the best debuts I've heard in recent years.
Ringo Deathstarr are a very good band, they're nothing spectacular but there's something strangely addictive about them. You might enjoy their album Colour Trip it's heavly influenced my MBV and JAMC. Here's a little taster:
