Hello all.

I am Gretchen. I am in college getting a B.A. in Music.

I grew up listening to classical (little c denoting the genre and not just the era), folk, and bluegrass.

I have stayed true to those roots and my mp3 player is dominated by these genres, but I have developed some love for rock of the indie sort, glam rock, and generally anything with complex orchestration.

some of my favorites include

In Folk(ish):

The Duhks
The Bills/Bill Hilly Band
Asylum Street Spankers (more blues/big band really)

Bluegrass:

Yonder Mountain String Band
Crooked Still

classical:

Schubert (and the romantic era in general)
Early Music

Rock(ish) indie(ish)?:

Raconteurs
Mumford and Sons

Other:

The Divine Comedy

I seem to really like music with banjoes (all but 1, excluding classical, on my list of favorites)

My current favorite song: Lay Down, by The Bills, has a melody with a lot of chromaticism, and a instumental interlude that is a folk orchestration of somthing by Shostakovich, and I definately think more music needs such elements.
