Apparently (according to my dad from watching a doco on the BBC), 100 grams of walnuts a day can help you lose weight. I'm getting some this week I want to try loose a few kgs.

Calories are still calories.

That's simplistic. Recent research indicates that some types of food (mainly animal proteins) require burning calories simply to process; for example, if you ate 100 calories worth of chicken, your net caloric intake woud be less than 100 because your body must burn energy to ingesting it.
That being stated, I'd avoid paying too much attention to news reports on the latest findings in nutrition science. What you should pay attention to aren't reports from a handful of recent studies, but long standing theories that have been repeatedly affirmed.
Anyways my personal diet: I don't eat any processed sugars. I don't eat any type of grain. I emphasize non-starchy vegetables over fruit, and the only fruits I eat are high-fiber. I eat around 8 eggs a day and a good deal of meat.
