I would like to hear some examples of the rock you are talking about though..
I like music that is usually more simplistic, raw and down home feel.
Overall as I say, most prog is just too cheesy to me, with a few exceptions which I named.
Aqualung is a case of an album I think is well written and well performed, I like Jethro Tull. I like some King Crimson... but the majority of the rest to me is awful.

See, here's the problem. Prog isn't cheesy nor is it laughable, you just don't like it. However, you don't really stand on solid enough ground to label it as 'laughable'.

Well, if the expression is the cure to insomnia then yes. Besides, the prog world goes way deeper than Yes. Biggest problem with prog is that the most dull prog(Yes, Genesis) bands are the ones that get the most acclaim. Doesn't stop prog, or the concept of progressive rock from being solid.

I'm thinking more 'Motley Crue'. I rarely know punk to sing about sluts.
