That's because you probably only watched the general drivel that makes it onto cinema screens or what is promoted as quintessentially British.

It's not a dig either. There is so much quality British drama made on a small scale (just as many other countries too) that doesn't get financial backing/promotion.

The films are out there. It's just a case of coming across them. This pretty much applies to most film making countries. Just dig a little deeper and don't judge a nations films on what the mainstream portrays.
