There are so many benefits to a woman getting pregnant in the military, another reason it happens so often. They get dependent pay, plus housing allowance (which allows them to get an apartment or house out in town on the governments dime and not have to live in a small, musty, overcrowded barracks on base). It ends up being an extra $2,000 a month overall, plus, living off base is a huge plus. Not to mention, if the father of the baby is in the Navy as well (usually are), they get half their pay for child support. So a single mom in the Navy is basically rolling like P Diddy at this point.
