I`ve never been a huge fan of Steeley Dan but I do think "Can`t Buy a Thrill" "Countdown to Ecstasy" "Aja" to be very good albums and "Pretzel Logic" to be their best. I actually think Toto, Journey and Boston for example to be better bands from that era when it comes to that kind of soft to mid rock sound. But I`d certainly say Steeley Dan were definitely better than the Doobie Brothers or Chicago.

I wouldn`t actually compare Steeley Dan to either the Cars or Devo as its a completely different sound, but in answer to your question I think the Cars and Devo albums to be better than Steeley Dan`s best.
