The Raincoats were an all-female British post-punk band who are considered to be very influential in the making of indie and alternative rock. I recently downloaded their self-titled,
Odyshape, and
Moving. So far, I've listened to their self-titled multiple times, and I have to say that it's somewhat reminiscent to The Velvet Underground's early sound. Don't let that dissuade you though... It's a very unique album, and it's in no way trying to mimic VU. I've played through
Odyshape only once, and I can't really give a good summary on it except the fact that it's a bit more experimental than their first album. I have yet to play
Moving, but I've heard it's much more pop-oriented. Overall, their material can be very whimsical, catchy, and experimental.
Here are a few of my favorite tracks:
So, what do you guys think of them?
