Default Ashbery's Journal

I'm new here, but if anyone happened to recognize my name they might guess that music and poetry are parallel interests of mine. My intention is that this thread will kind of act as the poetry version of the music journal I started on this forum.

I don't know exactly what it means to be a successful poet these days, but I think part of it must have something to do with reading poetry as well as writing. That's why a lot of this thread will include the poetry that I'm currently reading, as well as a few things that I've written that I don't intend to publish.

One of my favorite contemporary poets is Anselm Berrigan. He made a video for Poeteevee where he read a selection of his Notes from Irrelevance which (I think) was recently released. It's slippery and moves quickly, but I find that listening to poetry like this is a lot like listening to jazz. It's really densely packed with insightful and original language that's difficult to grasp on the fly, but it can be extremely rewarding.
