Beefheart, without hesitation for me.
I've never got into Zappa, despite giving a great deal of attention to an admittedly vast back catalogue. The fact is he's never made an album that got me as much as Safe as Milk, TMR and LMDO,B have.
Favourite is Safe as Milk.
Zappa's best is Hot Rats.
