I've had the pleasure of seeing Maiden live on a handful of occasions. They are decidedly not hair metal. Their musical content deals with a much darker subject matter than the 'let's party' mantra of 80's hair metal.

They came along in the late 70's, as the punk movement was ending it's run at the forefront. ( that's not to say it faded away, it just went back underground, where the true fans are). Their original singer, Paul Di'Anno, left after a few albums. Enter ****inson. His lyrics are rife with historical content, satanic references, etc. Hardly the stuff of 80's mascara metal.

And I agree with the above poster. 'Run to the Hills' makes me cringe. I am a Maiden fan, and it's probably one of their worst songs. It's funny how that works. The one song everyone knows isn't the true representation of what the band is all about.
