I feel pretty much the same. Generally on the whole, I don't like anime. Especially not when it features over the top characters with squeaky voices and hair in funny colours who get all stylized and scream with their arms flailing whenever something doesn't go their way. Akira is brilliant, though, both the movie and the longer manga it's based on. Akira along with Ghibli Studio films like Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke are a few of the animes I can stomach.
