Being a huge Tom Robbins fan, I can say with honesty that this really isn't one of my favorites. It being his first novel, I think he tried to hard to put his humor across and the story itself suffered for it. It's one of the only novels of his that I struggled to get through, ( the other being
Half-asleep in Frog Pajamas, mainly because it's written exclusively in second person narrative). I hope you have a better go at it and if you haven't read any of his other works, I assure you the experience gets much better.
