Exactly! I think people who don't like Hobo With A Shotgun don't really understand or enjoy it's heritage. I felt like it did a very good job in it's homage, being mean as you say, campy, has over-the-top "pointless" violence, taking itself very seriously now and then and making much of the humour seem unintended. And Rutger Hauer was bloody brilliant for the part!
