Brad Anderson's work isn't always the most challenging, but he does kind of make you think to yourself "I really should have figured that out earlier". His 2001 movie, Session 9 kind of did the same thing, but on a much smaller scale. Definitely a movie worth checking out if you enjoyed The Machinist.

I think Session 9 is vastly superior to The Machinist. Probably my favourite haunted house movie ever. The tension in that film that is screaming to get out is palpable from the start yet Anderson retains admirable constraint from showing anything approaching trad. horror cliches apart from one scene. Everything is built upon the characters and film setting. Superb movie.
