They are both feeble and pathetic, but I think that Three Day's Grace have managed to craft a slightly worse song with "I Hate Everything About You" than Staind. Don't get me wrong, they are both pretty unbearable.
There is nothing really alt about any of those two songs, both are really bad and perfect examples of the type of generic sounding hard rock/metal that you can easily find on any music channel. Staind are bad but Three Days Grace are worse, for the simple reason they come across as angsty kids in a rock band.
