I'm not really qualified to lodge an opinion on this, considering I haven't yet experienced even a modicum of the depth of feelings I associate with being 'in love'. I believe in it, for sure, and I'd rather have it even briefly then never have it at all, though of course, it's easy to say that when your thoughts on the concept are driven by romantic idealism. The reality is probably quite painful.
