70's album, by any artist. And I forgot this is the rock section, so Tears for Fears wouldn't count. I like John Waite as a solo artist, lyrically and vocally, but I think he's better with a rock band behind him and Bad English had great musicians. That album managed to be rocking and have emotional depth, which I consider a rare combination. It could have been even bigger if the band had done a few more videos for MTV. By the way, John Waite released an album this year or last which rocks more than he has since Bad English and is pretty good - check out some of it on YouTube.
