What are your favourite examples of sci-fi media?

One of my personal favourites are the Mass Effect games. They do a great job in tricking you into thinking you're playing in an open ended universe, but it's fairly linear. Has a lot of interesting species, great characters and development, and the story has touched me on a personal level many times. Can't wait for the final game in the trilogy next year.
