Yes, it was the second soundtrack Clint Mansell composed for Darren Aronofsky (first full length, really, as Pi just had a few tracks on it) and the beginning of his deeply emotional music to match the films over the years.

It is a wonderful package of music. Mansell does team with the Kronos Quartet on the tunes - their music especially dark and haunting in support of his compositions.

There was a remix album shortly after the soundtrack's release. If I'm not mistaken, it was the Oakenfold remix from this collection that found its way into a lot of commercials and sports introductions around the late 90's. It is pretty compelling, but while more contemporary, overall I don't think the remix collection surpasses the original soundtrack.

The Mansell / Aronofsky connection has really been amazing over the years, each seemingly surpassing the previous release. The soundtrack for Moon might have some of the most touching music I ever heard.
