Not to get too off topic... The Trail of Tears is a horrible injustice, that can't be argued. But, all the presidents not named Adams pretty much supported Indian removal and Madison supported an Indian removal bill passed, it failed by 3 votes. The bill passed under Jackson that he supported passed by 4 votes. It was always a close contest.
But Jackson did some decent things as president. He is the only president to pay off the national debt and, his handling of South Carolina's threat of session was inspiration to Lincoln when he famously said the Union must be preserved.
