If you like the first book you'll like books two and three as well, I'm reading book three which is split into two books here in the UK (some typical money grabbing idea) The debauchery and violence gets worse as the books go on, also don't get too attached to any of the characters as most seem to have grisley fates and the unexpected often happens. I also found the huge amount of characters and histories at times on the complex side, but by book two everything starts to slot into place and now I really appreciate the detail of the world.
I still have to see the TV series as season two is out on TV in April.
Favourite characters have to be Tyrion Lannister, Jaime Lannister, Bronn and Stannis Baratheon.
