I don't know if it's considered his best or not, but I definitely wouldn't write him off based on any one album. His music career covers more than fifty years and he's played in a variety of styles during that time, both solo and in other people's bands. I'm not sure what jazz, if any, you're into, but if you dig mid-60s Miles Davis albums, Herbie Hancock was the pianist on them.
