1.) Andrew Wood is just a more entertaining front-man then Eddie Vedder. Vedder is always trying to be some damn serious and too political.
Since Andrew Wood modelled himself on Robert Plant that's no surprise really, Robert Plant was known for his excess. Also a vocalist taking on a political slant is nothing new.

2.) Andrew Wood plays piano and writes hella' good ballads.
He sounds like Elton John.

3.) Don't like the direction that Pearl Jam went in after the album 'Vs.'.
I do and it shows a band willing to evolve than just churning out the same thing.

Bottom line:

MLB has always been more musically diverse than PJ! They got piano ballads, something PJ doesn't have and they have some good hard-rockers too, whilst PJ just made wussy stuff for college radio after 'Vs.'
Bottom line is actually this: You are comparing a band that just put out one studio album against a band with a sizeable discography, any band with a discography like PJ is going to have highs and lows, so its an unfair comparison. Quality wise, the MLB album probably sits in with some of the weaker PJ albums. As said you're just trying be a hipster here.
