Of course it doesn't "matter" where your ancestors got their genes but it's a fascinating thing to know about yourself. I'm sorry that you don't know such things but you don't need to disregard the entire practice of human genealogy. It's cool that you're a carefree American mutt but don't insult people who know their ethnic heritage. Familial genealogy is interesting - kinda like how human history is.

the farthest genealogy I can trace is some Imperial Mandarin Officer in China, and that's only my father's adoptee family
he has some big rank in the Ming Dynasty and is some sort of deity
this I know cos the founder of Genting Highlands (Lim Goh Tong) is from the same village as my adoptee great grandfather and all people in the same village in China share common ancestry
his name is General Lim or something
i'd, however, like to think I'm descended from King David
