I love SRV's cover of little Wing, but I prefer Jimi's original. Jimi did write it, after all, which is the more admirable task imo. Hendrix could have added more soloing if he wanted. I love SRV, he's definitely one of the greatest, but B.B. is the king. SRV was ferocious and intense, B.B. was more smooth and laid back. SRV could play some real smooth stuff, too. I can totally understand why you would prefer SRV. But the pioneering factor does come into play with me, I have much respect for B.B. because of that and I'm sure SRV did too.

B.B.'s phrases also ooze with passion and his vibrato is great, too. He was a little more technical than some might think. He was great at adding chord tones in order to really highlight the chord changes.

When I really think about it, it's damn near impossible to say who is the best. It's easier to come up with a list.

These are the very best in my opinion. But still, it's hard to come up with the list. It's always likely to change

Robert Johnson
T-bone Walker
B.B. King
Buddy Guy
Freddie King
Guitar Watson
Jimi Hendrix
Duane Allman
SRV
