I think its a good setup that allows you to play better. A poorly setup Prs Custom 24 is going to feel like crap. A well set up squier will outplay it everytime.
Intonation/Action/GoodNut-Tuners is really imo what matters.
Like you said price and brand isnt the issue. I sold my 800 Thinline tele to upgrade a 120 dollar Chinese guitar that had great wood. Everything else can be changed.
