I think that's actually a pretty good idea. While we do have a search function, it's quirky at best.
As for whether the threads should be closed, I'm thinking it might make your job a little easier if they remain open, so others can post links for you to add to the main post, and you'll be editing the main post when new threads are created anyway, so you'll need to have access to it.
