Honestly, I think metal has already hit it's high water mark. Metal bands became as ****ed up, fast, heavy, etc as they possibly could in the nineties with grindcore, black metal, and death metal and now metal bands for the most part are just desperately trying to find new ways to make old hat sound interesting. There are a few bands with legitimately good ideas, maybe even a few new sub-genre movements, but not enough to build an actual creatively vibrant metal movement the likes of old. The glory days are over.
