The 'revolutionary' elements were the screaming and the atonal dissonance in regards to how they constructed their songs. Yes, people outside the mainstream heard it and shrugged because it had already been done before, but consider who their target was - kids who's idea of 'real' punk rock was Green Day, Fallout Boy and Good Charlotte. For at least some of those listeners you'd better believe it was a truly revolutionary moment.
