You'll probably really enjoy Jaco Pastorius in that case, he features a steel drum player on the majority of his tracks which gives his music a more Caribbean island feel, but he's a bass player so that's the dominant instrument.

I figure you'll also really like Earnest Ranglin's stuff, particularly the Below the Bassline album, it's smooth reggae jazz, and in this case Ranglin is an awesome guitarist.
