I think, somewhere along the line, the whole nature v nurture argument would have to be thrown into the mix. If you consider the tabula rasa argument then it's hard to argue that people are born gay because they would have no disposition to favour either sex.
Having said that, I certainly don't remember any social stimuli that leaned me more one way than the other. One day there was nothing, the next 'wow, she's kinda nice....'.
