Well, like I said, never been in the situation myself, so I'm not pretending to know one way or the other, but while it would obviously be the first instinct, sometimes a friend might decide to stick with his girl rather than you. It's easy to say, "Well then he must not be a very good friend", but life is life and things are never that simple.
