Love them both, but honestly I'd have to go with New Hollywood. I get that working under restrictions can and has lead to more focus on making a good film, but the Hays Code was way too strict of a restriction. If you don't know what the Hays Code (aka the Motion Picture Production Code) was, you should really look it up. I can see why people would argue Old Hollywood though. A lot of ****ty films were produced in every era of film making (really this applies to every artistic medium, but this thread is about film), we just aren't really aware of the terrible films that were made decades ago because nobody watches them. If you want to see evidence of this, juts look at TCM, a lot of the films they play aren't exactly classics.
