Surely, you wouldn't want to partner Carroll and Welbeck, both of whom have virtually no international experience in a game as important as this one, not to mention there is no evidence to say their different styles will mesh.

Precisely. Given his past record, it was a strange decision not to take him. I know it's old school mentality but it has to be two up front every time for me and, had Crouch gone, Hodgson would have had that option. There was no-one up front yesterday with enough experience.
