Some people are going to be influenced by whatever's popular. When I was in high school, a lot of the dudes had bangs and wore skinny jeans and the girls had random Taking Back Sunday lyrics scribbled all over their notebooks. Even the jocks and cheerleaders. The 60's were the same... most of the kids in high school had really long hair and wore bell-bottoms. The only difference is that
they had a huge cultural movement backing them up.
