Yeah I think that's the key point. Back in the 70's, if you lived in a small town or isolated situation, if you didn't like what was on the radio, you were pretty much screwed. We were lucky in that radio still played Beatles/Stones/Zeppelin, but we had to wade through a lot of awful Styx/Journey/etc. too and we had no idea stuff like No Wave or Beefheart was going on at all. We couldn't just go to the internet and listen to whatever we wanted from all over the freakin' world.

On top of that, we had to walk 30 miles through 10 feet of snow to get to school and eat hot asphalt for breakfast and the weed wasn't as good as it is now. It was hell...

Seriously though, it's never been easier to explore new music so there's no excuse not to try and find your own way. It's easy to hate on the normals but that just means you care more about them then they care about you.
