John Lennon.
Not to diminish the impact of the loss of other greats such as Elvis, Hendrix, etc., but Lennon was on his way to a comeback. "Double Fantasy" would have been just the beginning. Imagine the kind of stuff he would have continued to put out, considering his life experience, the changes in his perspective, etc.
