As much as I love Death Grips and understand/appreciate the acclaim they get from critics and others for being, abrasive and "scary!" rap, I feel bad for Dalek because they are getting lost in the shuffle with this sudden rise in abrasive/alternative hip-hop thanks to Odd Future and Death Grips. Dalek certainly isn't the first to venture towards the darker side of hip-hop, but there is something much more terrifying listening to Absence compared to The Money Store. Death Grips are crazy and mentally unstable with their sound, some fairly intelligent lyrics not withstanding. Dalek, on the other hand, are flat out angry with both their sharpened, highly political lyrics and layers of dense, sub-sonic noise. Imagine if MC dalek didn't sound as calm and collected as he does, Absence would be a record of literal vitriol, rage and passion.

Anyway, Bat... If you want to check out more Dalek, Absence is the most abrasive they will get. However, Abandoned Language is still an incredible release and still as dark and political. The analogy I like to make is Absence is the soundtrack to hell, then Abandoned Language is the soundtrack to purgatory.
