Yeah Candy Man isn't something that's really indicative of the 40's - you should try to be more specific - do you want Jazz or Pop or Cowboy Music, etc? Musical styles of popular music were pretty diverse in those days, but if you're having a party, you might look into putting together some 1940's Swing music. Check out 'Sing Sing Sing' by Benny Goodman as a prime example and go from there. Louis Jordan, Cab Calloway, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie - so much to choose from. There are also a lot of 'Music of World War II' compilations featuring the pop hits of the day.

Some of it is definitely shmaltzy and corny, but there is so much great stuff - big beat music that makes you want to move your butt and get jumping. Remember that much of this music was made specifically to keep spirits up and toes tapping during a long, brutal war, so it really lends itself to dancing and whooping it up.

Who knows? You might start a trend.
