You might even say that genre/sub genre classification lends itself to a more academic (Learning) appreciation of music, whereas, when you start to take a more holistic view, that appreciation begins to deepen even further. When I discover how a particular Martin Denny song directly influenced some work by the Residents, those kinds of obscure little connections are profound and a big reason why music is my favorite art form.

Both approaches are valid and I'm definitely seeing where one can lead to the other.

You know, my original remark was made with tongue in cheek, just playing the game of the thread, but this has turned into a pretty interesting conversation.
