Never seen any other Winding Refn films, I had never ever hear of him until watching Drive. Which of his movies would you say is most worth checking out?

All of them! The Pusher Trilogy was made in his native country with Mads Mikkelsen later known from Casino Royale. Bronson is this odd arthouse look at Britains most notorious prisoner Charles Bronson with Tom Hardy (Inception, Warrior) blowing the screen away and Valhalla Rising which is akin to Santa Sangre in it's approach to a genre whilst being nothing like that genre.
Valhalla Rising was promoted as a 300 type film but has more in common with Kubrick and Tarkovsky. Mogwai provided the soundtrack.
