Jackson have some of the best guitars known to rock/metal.

The Jackson Aresenal now includes some suprisingly cool novice guitars, the kind I wish I had the sence to buy when I was first starting. There are models for all sorts of novice styles, or if your just dirt poor then you can get one of their "starter packs" and still come away with a fairly decent sounding and playing axe.

One novice model, which you wouldn't really reccomend to a beginner has an original licensed floyd rose tremelo, which Im sure must be for the poor man, as anyone with a floyd rose discovers upon first use they are tricky. However once sussed, they can be your best friend in all the world for playing and expanding on your style.

The more expensive Jackson's are the ones most people will be farmiliar with from seeing such guitar hero's as Rhandy Rhoads, Phil Collen and other signiture model artists. Jackson lead the field of radical shaped and cutting edge guitar technology. I recently ordered a Jackson RR3, which I havent yet played, but have played a similar model (the RR5) which is basically the same without the Floyd Rose. I can honestly say that was the nicest guitar I have ever played, and I count the hours in the days left until I recieve my very own peice of guitar history in the making.

Also ESP aren't far behind. I bought an ESP MH100 a few years back and it has proved to be a powerhouse of metal destruction, it plays beautifully, has every extra, and it does go the extra mile. Many artists who use Jackson guitars also have one if not many ESP model's (for example: Dave Mustaine, Alexi Laiho, Kirk Hammet and so forth.

Model's to look out for:
ESP: DV-8, MH series, Alexi Laiho signiture Rhoads style V...
Jackson: Warrior, Rhandy Rhoads models, KE series, soloists and dinky's.

Good luck with your search... By the way I started with a squier, you cant go wrong with one of those, but u can do better for around the same price, I seriously recommend the jackson novice guitars, if you are a fan of metal/heavy rock, you will appreciate this advice when you progress, especially if you risk it and get the floyd rose option, as this will give you limitless options as to where your style will go. Getting a Jackson starter will ensure you don't need to purchase a "decent" guitar for a good while, as it will be everything and more than you need in a starter pack, and isnt a half bad peice of kit.
